Description:
Didinium has a needle-like trichocyst which it uses to impale its victim (usually a Paramecium) then devour its prey whole.
Habitat:
Vernal pond in SW Pennsylvania.
Notes:
You can best see the piercing trichocyst when the Didinium rotates and faces left near the final third of the video.
