Description:

I am not sure about the name: Glaucium leiocarpum, as I found the same plant here on Project Noah as Claucium corniculatum (Blackspot Hornpoppy), however according to 'Flora of Israel Online' (University of Jerusalem) Leicoarpum might be correct. ???? (http://flora.org.il/plants/GLALEI/ )

It is a small poppy, and very often I see just small patches with just one flower at a time, no bushes. Albeit they might 'branch out', as see here on the pictures.

Habitat:

I see this poppy a lot in the mountain area of St. Katherine.

Notes:

A Bedouin explained to me that the seeds are used to make medicine for the eyes. Unfortunately my Arabic is not good enough, so I could understand for which kind of eye condition it is used....

I'm sure, it is true that in Sinai they are paler compared with S Jordan and S Israel. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1068726003 They also resemble Glaucium leiocarpum, but this one is a more northern species http://www.treknature.com/gallery/photo61963.htm

Are you sure, Ori? I never saw these (with the long seed pods) with only red flowers, they are always yellow/orange with red only in the middle.

Glaucium leiocarpum could be a synonym for Glaucium corniculatum var. leiocarpum: http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/kew-2826381 It's not uncommon for the names on Flora of Israel to be different than what I find in other literature. (And their site used to be in English too, but they are re-doing it at the moment and I hope we get the English back soon!)
