Field Notes

Description:

They have long, powerful antennas, with a narrow yellow ring for each joint. They have yellow wings with dark spots. The yellow and black cover wings are rough imitations of wasps, which probably gives them some protection against birds. The chest area is black. The legs are yellow with black spots.

Habitat:

Farmland. Feeding on scentless mayweed in the garden.
