Field Notes

Description:

Approx. 100mm across, flat top held up from ground on thick stalk, underside gilled, top beige colour side and underneath white, white 'shreds' hanging down around edges of top.

Habitat:

Found growing in dry woodland environment, heavy ground leaf litter, emerged after rain ending a long dry season.

Notes:

Second image shows the gilled underside clearly and that the fungi is also a food source for Rufous Bettongs or Rat-Kangaroos that feast on fungi at night.

Sorry I meant to say Amanita farinacea (Fuhrer 2005)
Additional photo added showing this fungi is a food source for local Rufous Bettings or Rat-Kangaroos (small rat like marsupials or small kangaroos). They are often out at night feasting on fungi. Image also shows the gills clearly.
