Field Notes

Description:

This attractive moth in the family Crambidae (grass moths) has distinctive white-bluish and brown markings. See the distinctive brush-like mouth appendage ("snout"). Forked brown markings can be seen radiating from the base. Hairy fringes can be seen on the at the back of the wings.

Habitat:

A meadow in a bush property; surrounded by dry sclerophyll forest.

Notes:

These moths fly low in the grass, and fly away shortly ahead when approached, landing with closed wings on grass stems.
