Description:

irregular bracket fungus with gill-like undersurface and irregular crusty reddish-brown cap surface with thick white margin.

Habitat:

growing on dead hemlock in south central VT

Notes:

the specimen in the photo emerged with a central stem-like attachment to the wood, but there were other specimens that took a more fan-shaped bracket form.
