Field Notes
Description:
A tiny organism, probably no more than 1" long. Long, slender wings and body. Body is white with brown overlaid. Antenna are brown and white. Organism has two slender appendages beside the body which sport a "barb-wire" type of spikes. A smaller version of these appendages is beside the body under the wings. Feathery tufts also are on these appendages. When folded up and hanging from vegetation, this small creature appears to be more of a broken twig than a living being.
Habitat:
Spotted in my backyard garden on the False Spirea and Butterfly Bush.
Notes:
Fascinating little creature! There are several of these in the garden and all are very busy with the flowers.
