Neat! Maybe you should dig it up carefully like in your reference, if it pupated you can see what it turns into! The pupa might be hard to find unless you can follow the tunnel.
I marked the hole with a surveyor's flag, and have been checking up on him, but today there was no response when I stuck a piece of grass in his front door. Hopefully he's pupating down there, or has left completely, rather than being eaten by something. I was hoping to see whet kind of tiger beetle he turned into.

Ah ha! After about half an hour of "googling", I've found it! It's a Tiger Beetle Larvae!
I can't tell - what is that? Some sort of crustacean?
