White-throated Kingfisher

White-throated kingfishers, also known as smyrna kingfishers, are a widely distributed tree kingfisher found all across Eurasia. They eat a variety of things; this one appeared to be eating a caterpillar as you can see in the second photograph. Their white breast is very distinctive and makes for easy identification. However, in Singapore, while they are in flight if you only have a passing glance and the sun is bright you can mistake it for a mynah, a much more common bird. Its call distinguishes it, and makes it a distinctive "little" bird-- it is actually one of our larger kingfishers.
