Description:

Lifer :) Male is solid, glossy black with a tall crest and a red eye. Was very happy to see this guy!

Habitat:

Perched in a shrub near a large, spring-fed lake. Mostly desert-scrub area.

They have such an odd sound. I don't know it they do this where you have them, but here they say they breed twice a year. They migrate between the desert and the forests here. Right now they are found in the bay area
