Field Notes

Description:

Black and orange bug with leathery look. There is a thick black band across the elytra. Only shot of this bug before it flew off. Prefers milkweed plants; hence, the common name. The nymph can be seen at my other spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1112396009

Habitat:

Oleander plant in the backyard. Species is found throughout the eastern and southern US.
