Field Notes

Description:

Often difficult to see, having a secretive nature. The plumage is dark slaty grey above and head is grey and the chin and throat are white finely barred with grey. Breast and belly are white barred with rufous and the primary and secondary flight feathers are dark brown. The tail is blackish with three white patches on the central feathers. The cere is yellow, the bill is dark grey and the eyes are yellow as are the legs and feet.

Habitat:

Semiarid desert of Tankwa National Park.

Notes:

This bird of prey was looking for something in the thicket.
