Field Notes

Description:

Growing wild next to my allotment was this beautiful flower. It was in amongst some other wild flower type plants.
I tried to remove the whole plant but this was unsuccessful, so I took the flowers and put them in a vase and they look beautiful. I would like to discover the species and plant another few on my allotment. It has a beautiful very strong scent, a (forgive the irony) typical floral one.
The flowers remind me of carnations a little, except these are much smaller, each flower somewhere between a 5p and 10p piece.
If anyone could identify this I would be so grateful. Thanks :)

Habitat:

Overgrown abandoned allotment in a suburban area, with very old woodland overhanging.

Thank you both :) I shall look into it. They're beautiful and smell amazing for such small flowers.
Lucky for you, these are easy to grow and beautiful! :)
Welcome to Project Noah, Selina. I look forward to many more posts from you.
Looks like a hybrid Dianthus.
