Rough Green Snake
Opheodrys aestivus
32.2631, -95.6449
Field Notes
Description:
A long, slender snake that has a bright green back and a smooth, cream belly. These snakes have very long tails that aid in their arboreal life style. This guy was quite rambunctious, and I tried to get him to bite me since he kept opening his mouth like that, but I couldn't get him to, they are very sweet snakes.
Habitat:
Found in a Common Buttonbush at a ponds edge at night, they are easy to find in the right habitat with a spotlight; the belly shines back at you. The last photo shows him climbing a tree when I released him.
