Field Notes

Description:

About four or five foot mild mannered snake on frporch. His tongue was black and his tail vibrated when we tried to get him on a rake to move him out of the yard. First thought was a rat snake, but just wasnt sure!

Species ID Suggestions

Black or Western Rat Snake

Elaphe obsoleta

Comments (1)

It appears to be a black rat snake, but looks awefully large to still have its juvenile markings. Still, that is my best guess.
