Description:

Check out these fabulous antennae! I think that this is Polyphylla variolosa because of its large size, orange fanned antennae, and white bands on its underbelly (making it look a little bee-like from underneath).

I read that they hiss when they are disturbed. Next time I'll listen more closely.

Habitat:

My lawn. A real backyard wilderness tamed by lawnmower.
