Field Notes

Description:

Big, bright metallic flying beetle with a bright yellow "vest" (stylish!) and long, black, segmented antennae. For scale, it is perched on a full-sized maple leaf. I did a quick search online, and couldn't pinpoint an ID, especially for a beetle found in Maine. Ideas?

Habitat:

Forest edge

Species ID Suggestions

Elderberry Borer

Desmocerus palliatus

Glad to help! I use Bugguide frequently for North American insect and spider ID. It is a very useful resource.
Thanks for solving my mystery, ForestDragon! I appreciate you sending me the link to the BugGuide site for future reference. Cool site.
