Field Notes
Description:
A very attractive mushroom when young. About 130mm tall and the same wide. Pileus flat to slightly depressed at centre, brown to lilac with lilac margin, viscid; stipe thick, straight, ring covered with tan-orange spore, lilac coloured below ring, paler to white above ring, scaly; gills simple, dense, pale brown.
Habitat:
From open ground under sparse eucalyptus with occasional native pine species.
Notes:
This one getting older; younger ones have a very strong purple colour particularly on the top which fades to brown with age. A native of Australia but has been found elsewhere like in Calif. USA
