Field Notes

Description:

Stocky rail with a short yellow-orange bill. Dark shadow over the eyes. Usually elusive, but sometimes in the early mornings and early evenings they will come out. They look a little like chickens when they walk.

Habitat:

Marshes and lakes with tall reeds.

Notes:

This was spotted with Virginia Rails and a Least Bittern.
