Field Notes

Description:

Pea or Bean family. Red clover has a round cluster of rosy red flowers that appear as 1 large red flower. They bloom in the spring, summer and fall.

Habitat:

The red clover is a non-native plant from Europe that grows in sunny, wet or dry areas, old fields and pastures. It was introduced as a hay and pasture crop. It has since escaped to the wild and is now one of the most common roadside plants. Red clover is pollinated nearly exclusively by Honeybees. Without them it is unable to produce seeds and will eventually die out.

Notes:

Red clover can be found along the roadside of Hwy 29 near South Tamarac Lake.
