Field Notes

Description:

Not quite a tadpole anymore- not quite a bullfrog yet. We caught and released several- this was the only one missing a leg- it still had an impressive jump.

Habitat:

Shallow end of fresh water lake with lots of water plants.

Notes:

These tadpoles are mainly vegetarians and although they will eat their siblings. Mom can lay up to 20,000 eggs at once. The young can regenerate their tails. Bullfrogs can remain tadpoles for up to 2 years.

It has been fun to watch them grow a week at a time, but now that they can jump they are a lot harder to catch.
