Field Notes

Description:

This the Western or ornate Box turtle.

Habitat:

Backyard Habit. A raised bod of Yaupon Hollies that has no foot traffic. Moderate fencing to prevent the trutles from escaping, but they do. We have had breeding pairs for over 21 years in this environment. The turtles stay in this environment all year.

Notes:

The initial pair are from Midland, Texas. They have bred and the male has escaped. We have about 5 turtles at this time
