Description:

Approx. 80 mm in length, leaf green colour this Katydid imitates a gum leaf perfectly, even the veins, edge colour, shapes and shades of the leaves are replicated to perfection. Also known as a Long horned Grasshopper or Bush Cricket - they are more closely related to crickets than grasshoppers. Antennae longer than body. Katydids feed on leaves, seeds, bark, flowers, some are predatory and eat insects and/or small vertebrates. Image 3 shows the Katydid and leaf accessory. Image 2 shows the Katydid with sunlight highlighting the length of the body (seen as shadow) compared to length of the wings which make up much of the body length.
