American Sycamore
Platanus occidentalis
32.3761, -88.6898
Field Notes
Description:
Large American Sycamore, wrapped up in a twining vine. Native to North America. Easy to recognize because of its "bare" look. The rigid bark breaks and flakes off as the trunk and branches grow ... it can't stretch. You can often find sections of sloughed bark at the foot of a mature sycamore.
