Description:

The Black-rumped Flameback, scientifically known as Dinopium benghalense, is a species of woodpecker found in South Asia. It has distinctive black markings on its rump and a vibrant red crest on its head, making it easily recognizable. These birds are often found in wooded habitats, where they use their strong beaks to drill into tree trunks in search of insects and larvae. They are known for their loud calls and drumming sounds, which they use for communication and territorial purposes.

Habitat:

Spotted near Anaikatti, Coimbatore.

Hi Pradeep, I am pretty sure that this Woodpecker belongs to the Genus Dinopium. If you look in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinopium..... you will see that there are only five Dinopium spp. and I think your Woodpecker is Dinopium benghalense. Please have a look and see what you think.
