Description:
I've lived on this spacious mountain property since I was a child and call me whacky, but I've actually seen at least three of my dogs "playing" with the wild groundhogs, over the 40 years I've lived here. I've watched the groundhogs chase and be chased by our dogs and run from one hole to the next and even pop up in different holes and "play hide and seek" with my dogs. After which, I've observed them laying side-by-side, taking a rest and panting with exhaustion. Sadly, I've also just recently watched as this (above) mother and all but one pup was washed out of her den that was located under the footer of our bridge during a flash flood. The pup came up to my son's feet, looked up at him and started to cry. It followed my son to a safe place behind the barn and we see it from time-to-time.
Notes:
Yes, they can be a nuisance. http://www.virginiaprofessionalwildliferemovalservices.com/Groundhogs.h…
