Field Notes

Description:

This song thrush was busy bashing the huge snail in its beak against a small rock in the grass, it repested this several times with a sharp flick of its head until it was satisfied, it then proceeded to pull the slimy contents out bit by bit until it had finished when it scuttle off back in to the hedges presumably to find more.

Habitat:

seen on a lane near Brockadale nature reserve, Kirk smeaton.

Notes:

listed as a 'Red' species in this country by the RSPB, possibly due to declining farmland habitat.
