Field Notes

Description:

Large, robust bees that resemble honey bees. They lack the abdominal hair that bumble bees have. Males have white or cream colored faces.

Habitat:

Gardens, prairies, etc.

Notes:

The females will chew holes into wooden decks, rafters in sheds and other wooden structures in order to lay her eggs within the chambers. She will provide a meal for her offspring in the form of a paralyzed insects.
