Field Notes

Description:

Two bright orange fungi with mottled domed cap and stipe. Both fruiting bodies were young, with one of them showing an expanding cap(pic #3). At this stage the cap was about 40mm wide. The caps had a partial veil across their gills and pic #3 shows a partially torn veil forming a ring around the stipe. Gills were a paler orange.

Habitat:

Growing as a clump at the base of a live eucalyptus tree - nature reserve.

Distribution:

Notes:

Bigger caps look spectacular; they are a bright orange all over making them stand-out against the sometimes drab background. This gives them the common name "Spectacular Rustgill". The other name "Laughing Gym" comes from the fact that some subspecies of these mushrooms contain psilocbin , a hallocinogenic.
