Description:

This herb is native to the western United States and grows at high elevations. The flower and leaves of this plant make it easy to recognize.

Habitat:

Found this Brown's peony along the trail to Ross Falls in the Sawtooth National Forest. There were various species of shrubs, forbs and grasses along the trail.

Notes:

This plant is named after the botanist Robert Brown. It is the only plant in the genus Paeonia that is native to the United States.
