Fly-like insect busy on a sunny yellow garden flower.

Habitat:

Garden flowers at Minter Gardens, Rosedale, BC. Westcoast Temperate rainforest habitat.

Notes:

Introduced European species!

Rather variable species, so confusion is understandable.
I have checked on bug guide and wiki and think you are right but cannot find an exact match for mine so will have to still say unknown! Syrphidae species. Thanks, John!
Definitely a fly - perhaps a hover fly (Syrphidae) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoverfly

This photo of the Honey Bee on Bug guide is really close. The body on mine seems shorter? http://bugguide.net/node/view/404389 Any thoughts or help on this?
