Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized oval leaf, smooth. Dark olive green above and bright purple below. This orchid blooms mid July through late August.

The leaves appear in the autumn and overwinter. They last until late spring or early summer.

Habitat:

Rockwood Park, Virginia. Temperate forest.
