Field Notes

Description:

About 1 1/2 inches long, stout. Lovely shiny rich dark chocolate brown all over. Legs are spiky, and will try to squeeze your fingers with them if it gets annoyed. Three long horns on the thorax, making it resemble a triceratops dinosaur!

Habitat:

Found on my front porch in the evening, immediately after a rain storm. I'm in Central Florida, in Longleaf Pine/Turkey Oak Sandhill habitat.

Notes:

We kept him, and he now lives at the Discovery Center of Ocala. He likes apples!
