It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, Paraguay, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. I found this specimen in a ravine, in a region of transition between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest.

In Brazil, also known as "Pula-Pula Amarelo" ("Yellow Jump-Jump", or, "Bouncy Yellow") because of its color and movement it makes when walking.
