Field Notes

Description:

Large palm reaching heights of 20 - 40 mtrs. Trunk diameter 1-2.5 mtrs Fan palm with leaves with long petiole terminating in a rounded fan of numerous leaflets. This tree can live up to 30 yrs before flowering and then it dies. This photo shows both a flowering and growing gebang palms.
Monoscarpic means it dies after flowering.

Habitat:

Spotted near a waterhole in Cape York Queensland.

Notes:

These trees were so interesting to see because they were in different stages of life.
