Description:

8-12 inches long, the monk parakeet is bright green above with a long, pointed, green and blue tail. Originally from South America, they end up thriving in many urban locales. Here in Brooklyn, they certainly like Greenwood Cemetery and Brooklyn College. The 5th photo shows the nests they've built atop the spires of this building.

Notes:

Monk Parakeets spend much of their time repairing and adding to their nest. Cooperative nest building is the main activity for these social birds.

Nice one Neil. No wonder they spend so much time on those nests, they're huge!
