Field Notes

Description:

a cluster of yellow brown mushrooms with pointed brown scales on the cap. caps 1 to 4 1/2 in. in diameter, slightly sticky, darker brown at the center, lighter toward the margin. gills tan-brown, bruising darker. stalk with dark fibrous ring very near the top at the cap. small brown scales on the stalk below the ring only. stalk slightly wider at the base.

Habitat:

on dead wood, prospect park brooklyn

Notes:

the spores deposited on the lower caps is reddish brown in color.
