Description:

This couple prompted a lovely "facts of life" conversation between my 4-year-old, six-year-old, and me.

Habitat:

We were on a bridge just above a river that flows through dry prairie.

I agree that the insect on the right is certainly a Seven-spotted Lady Beetle. There were several different kinds of Ladybugs on the grass at this spot, but most of the pictures didn't focus. The mating pair were different than all the rest.
Nice image. I actually see two different species of Lady Beetle in your picture. The mating pair look like Hippodamia convergens, Convergent Lady Beetles. The one on the right looks more like a Seven-spotted Lady Beetle, Coccinella septempunctata. Though, without more images, I can't say for 100% sure.
Wildlife is not only fascinating to observe but useful, too! :>)
