Description:
The wood duck is Minnesota's most colorful duck. It is a small perching duck, the male has blue-green crested head with white stripes, a reddish brown breast, broad wings and a long square tail. They are about 20 inches in length and weight about one and a half pounds.
Habitat:
Wood ducks are commonly found near lakes and wooded potholes, where nuts, berries and other food sources are easily found. These ducks nest throughout Minnesota and will use man-made nest boxes.
Notes:
This wood duck was spotted on the marsh area near the west edge of Pine Lake on Hwy 29.
