The trick is to not use too much zoom so they don't fly out of view and even then the success rate is fairly low. I save in raw mode which helps a lot but many cameras don't have that facility. Even high quality jpg can be quite lossy with most cameras. The bigger the sensor the better but that comes at a price. At least with digital you can take lots of pictures and delete the ones which are no good
