I will take your word for it and assume David was correct in the first place. It did come out of a vacant lot in our subdivision that is wet all the time. Like all your photography. Thanx for the help.
The shell alone can be up to 5 inches of an eastern mud turtle, then adding in its head and tail would fit your size range you listed.
This little guy was larger than most descriptions of Mud Turtles. I would list him at 6-8" in length with head out.
