Field Notes

Description:

This is a member of Iris family as per the common name. It is one of 16 species of the genus Neomarica, and an exotic in Papua (Asia/Oceania), cultivated only. However it is hardy, thrives and can spread and increase substantially in biomass. The genus is native to Africa and C. & S. America.

Habitat:

This plant is growing as an ornamental in a semi-urban garden in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

This species was planted in my yard/garden as an ornamental but it grows profusely. It can be seen in many of my spottings. However this is only the second spotting where it is the featured species.
