Description:

A follow up to the previous spotting with the many Colotis sp. A medium sized butterfly with dark orange, almost pinkish tips of the wing. I spotted many of those, and all of them had this bright colouration.

Habitat:

High altitude mixed woodland (prim. Acasia bushes) and grassland. This was found on a plant next to a gravel road. Place for the spotting: Mlawula Nature Reserve, Swaziland.

Notes:

This butterfly has varying amount of dark markings on the wings depending on the gender, location and time of year. Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colotis_danae

This can also be a Red Tip Colotis antevippe

Thak you Seema and Dotun for commenting on this spotting! Dotun, since there are so few flowers in bloom where I was (due to the dry season) the few flowers that existed were crowded with all types of butterflies! The butterflies I normally see in Mozambique are on wing all the time and it is difficult to get a picture. I was very lucky in Swaziland! Have a great weekend both of you, and I am looking forward to se your future spottings :)
This one's on my Wanted List. Very evasive! I think you deserve a medal, or maybe Mmozambican species are more affable.
so many b'ful; creatures exist, which I never nknew
