Thank you Keith and Bayucca for the input. You are showing me a bigger world that I knew.
Hmm, as well... I wasn't not so precise with my comment. When I wrote "black legs", I actually meant black femurs, not ones with that "reticulated" markings. When you ask me THE trustable website for bugs, than it is bugguide. But there is even there a wrong ID possible, but I think that would be a very rare case, specially with such a common grasshopper. However, nymphs are always tricky to ID.
Hmm. I was thinking Taeniopoda, until I saw this image of Romalea. http://bugguide.net/node/view/81815 I couldn't find an example of Taeniopoda with red legs. Anyway, the two are so similar, there is probably no point in comparing images from here or BugGuide. There is a significant probability those images are wrongly placed.
Luis, I would take Taeniopoda sp.. Personally I do not think it is Taeniopoda equus, there are some other ones found in Mexico, but I am not sure if Equus is reported from Mexico.
Thank you Bayucca for the ID and the links. I appreciate your effort.
I think it is a Taeniopoda sp. which are almost identical to Romalea. The legs in Taeniopoda looks like in yours and Romalea have to my knowledge only and "pure" black legs. What do you think?
