Field Notes

Description:

Brown beetle with a brown spot on either side of the thorax. The abdomen has a faint dark pattern resembling wood grain. The head has a dark color between the eyes which gives it the name, masked.

Habitat:

Attracted to black light at night in the backyard.

Notes:

"From prefix cyclo meaning circular (from Greek kyklos circle, wheel) plus cephala head (Latin from Greek kephalikos, head)--Internet searches. Common name refers to the darkened area between the eyes - "mask""
