Field Notes

Description:

The male of this mountain species shows a dazzling orange upperside - visible across meadows from far away. Also, the ventral view of the hind wings are yellowish and have only a few black dots as well as characteristic white marks in the immediate vicinity of these, helping to differentiate it from similar species.

Habitat:

Alpine meadow, alt. ~1300 m. Found in the Derborence area, a high biodiversity site with two different climates; in the lower part where this spotting was made the climate is continental, dry and hot.

Notes:

No colour manipulation on these shots: it is really that orange
