This toad obtains in Northern Italy and Greece...Will contact someone from my University where I studied and ask for information, I'm really intriguing for find ID :)
It may well be, and that it hasn't been properly documented yet :-) It would be nice to try and find out if it's been reported in Italy too, as it would then cover more of the Mediterranean area. It would be nice to confirm the ID on this pic. Looking at his other photos the photographer may actually be a researcher. Maybe worth contacting him?
I found this picture of B. spinosus spotted in Croatia : http://www.agefotostock.com/en/Stock-Images/Rights-Managed/BWI-BS265656 probably this species lives in my area...
Thank you a lot, last few weeks I tried to find ID, without success! there's no local information about ssp. :( the search continues...
This one has been intriguing me for a while Jopy... great find! I can't think of anything else than B. bufo... However so far I've failed to find a local race or subspecies... :-( Maybe you have access to more local information... I'd go back to the same spot and try to find some similar ones!
Omg! Thank you, will change ID! I read that distribution of common toad is in Mediterranean region, didn't see details :( Can this be B. bufo? This toad is red and brown, and I can't find ID that match :(
Hi Jopy! Bufo spinosus is now recognized as a separate species, and Croatia is not part of its distribution :-( Please see: http://www.ctoz.nl/vol82/nr04/a01 http://amphibiaweb.org/cgi/amphib_query?where-genus=Bufo&where-species=spinosus http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bufo_spinosus
The red color confused me as well, but James found the suBspecies of Common toad :) thank you, James...
i 've already thought the same ... maybe some toads appear more reddish than others !
