Beautiful butterfly in backyard. Wings are black with outstanding blue shades, gradient and small "polka dots"

Maryland, USA

Notes:

I've seen these butterflies before - throughout my entire life, actually, in this area - so I know this is a rather common butterfly. But I'm ashamed for not knowing what kind this is!
