Description:

These pika had black stripes on their flanks. Prolific.

Habitat:

Grassland grazed by sheep, horses, and probably yak. Abundant small white birds (all one species) accompanied them, hopping around.

Congrats Tracy! A pica peeks out from its burrow in our Spotting of the Day! Plateau pikas are subterranean-dwelling relatives of the rabbit that live at high altitudes in China and Tibet. Unlike other pika species, male plateau pikas help to look after the young, which is good news for the female as they are prolific breeders and produce a litter every three weeks during the summer months.
