Bagworm

At first I thought it was some kind of an egg case. But after seeing the post and discussion here: http://thewesternghats.indiabiodiversity.org/observation/show/274681?po…

I was further intrigued. So I decided to investigate it today :-)

Now I know this is some kind of a bagworm. The construction material and technique used for the larval case seems to be similar to the "plaster bagworm". Although this seems to be much fancier.

This set of pictures should guide us closer to guessing the identity of this worm :-)

Found this on a Teak tree.
The 1st picture shows the Larval case was secured to the bark using silk strands.

In the second picture, the worm used leverage to pull the upside down larval case back onto itself.

The last picture shows the worm using its specially flat head to block the entrance to its case.
